How to Clean Your Multifunction Printer

Multifunction printers let users scan, fax, copy, print and more. These highly sophisticated pieces of technology perform better and longer if they are regularly cleaned and maintained.
First: Turn off and uplug the printer
Remember that you are cleaning an electronic object, so there is a risk of electric shock. Unplugging and turning off the printer prevents you from getting hurt and prevents you from accidentally shorting out your printer.
Second: Clean the exterior surfaces
Spray a glass cleaner, like Windex, onto a lint-free cloth, and wipe down the glass plate of the scanner to remove fingerprints, dust and debris. Use a dusting cloth to wipe down the exterior surface of the printer and remove the loose dust there.
Third: Open the main body of the printer
Open the main body of the printer. Turn the paper wheels, and insure that there are no little bits of paper stuck inside the printer anywhere. Remove anything that is visible in the body, and then wipe the visible surfaces with the lint-attracting cloth.
Fourth: Use compressed air
Blow through any areas of the printer that you cannot see with compressed air. This removes the dust and dirt from hard to reach cracks and crevices and protects the printer from deterioration.
Fifth: Clean the print head
Plug the printer back in, and turn it on. Use your owner's manual to find out how to clean the print head. Most printers clean the print head on their own, when set to the right setting in the main menu. Follow the instructions given by the printer's manufacturer for the best results.
